Origin of the name Block

The name may be of local origin and denote descent from a native of the North German town of the same name, thus literally meaning "of Block."

Records of the name in Germany date back as far as the 14th Century.

One Rantz am Block was registered as a citizen of the town of Esslingen as early as 1354. Hinricus Block was recorded in 1374 in Greifswald.
